Contract Update

Hello Everyone
I just want to touch base with everyone and try to restore a little sanity.
1st; Please disregard any information you may have received by anyone other than the Union’s Executive Board or from our official website.
The only people who are members of the Executive Board are myself, Vice-President Melissa Stark, Vice-President Alan Marsh, Treasurer Bill Foley, Secretary Rose Fearnley. Any information pertaining to the contract would normally only be sent by myself or Melissa or forwarded on by Bill. Anyone else who tells you that they have any other information is not authorized to do so and is probably passing along incorrect information.
Now for what we can pass along. On April 20th the Board of Alderman voted to accept the Binding Arbitration Award for our contract which runs from July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2017. The final language for the contract is still being worked on between ourselves and the City’s attorneys. The final cleanup issues will not have a major impact on the arbitration award but still needs to be handled before the contract can be signed and sent for publishing or given to payroll for the necessary salary changes. As soon as that is completed payroll will give us a schedule of when those changes will be implemented. When we have that information we will pass that along immediately . We will be having a meeting for our membership on May 18th and will be passing along the details for that very shortly. Hopefully we will have final dates for the new pay scales and retro pay and more information on the changes to our health plans by then. While we do know the general framework we want the real numbers for this year’s plan cost to help prevent complaints from some offices of our members calling to ask them questions based on incomplete or inaccurate information. There is also currently planned a huge number of dates for informational meetings at different schools and city buildings that the Pension and Benefits office is working hard to set up to help with the transition to the new health plans. Do not call them with questions as they will only direct you to us until everything is finalized. I know that everyone is anxious for information and it has been a long time coming but there is finally light at the end of the tunnel and everyone just needs to hang in there just a little longer.
